Where to stay: Hotels near Oxford, Ohio
As a current student I (and my family) have learned where to stay and where not to stay while in town for different events like family weekend, mom’s or dad’s weekends. They have stayed in some great Hotels near Oxford Ohio and some less-than-ideal locations on campus. So I wanted to share our honest reviews and assemble them here for you.
The Elms Hotel
The most well-known being “The Elms”. The elms was nice (once upon a time), it is stuck in in its 90’s country club wood paneling and wall paper. They have been in town for years, and everyone trusts their stay. They have great service, you can always rely on when you stay to have a reliable experience. From a location standpoint, there is nowhere else to look. They are located at the heart of uptown, and allow you to relive all the glory days of college. The Elms is a close 5 minute walk to classics like Bagel and Deli, Skippers, CJ’s, and Mac and Joe’s. Attached to the hotel’s lobby is Pickle and Pig, this is Oxford’s only “fine(er) dining experience”. So all said and done as long as you don’t mind dated décor the Elms is near the top of our list.
Fairfield by Marriot Inn & Suites
Next on our list is the brand-new Fairfield by Marriot Inn & Suites. This hotel opened very recently in August of 2025. They are just steps from millet hall and yager stadium. This will allow you to have the best experience for all your tailgate adventures. Unfortunately, they are slightly farther walk from uptown than compared to the Elms, however this is brand new. They accept all the Marriott reward points and Bonvoy benefits, so if this is part of your pack of tricks you have an ace up your sleeve. They have a full selection of snacks for purchase in the lobby including ice cream, frozen pizza, and others. Conveniently these all help curb any of your cravings you may have after your night on the town.
Best Western
If you are looking for something a bit cheaper, you have the option of staying at the Best Western on Sycamore Street. They are located between the Marriot and the Elms. The rooms are what you would expect, nothing extremely important to write home about. They are one of the few (if not the only) hotel to offer a pool – specifically an indoor pool, to their customers.
End of the road club
As you can probably guess there are a few places we would recommend staying away from. This can either be due to location or due to quality.
Butler Inn
Unfortunately, the Butler Inn is far outside of town. It is too far to be walkable so you will either have to drive or take an Uber. Now they appear to have been remodeled since the last time we visited. However, there are reports that what you see online and what you get can differ, so take that with a grain of salt. But the Butler Inn is your stereotypical hotel/motel.
Oxford Inn
The Oxford Inn is located further out of town than the Butler Inn so you are guaranteed to have to drive or uber everywhere you want to go. It is known by students to be worse than the dorms on south quad, if you are a recent Miami grad you know what that means. I have never stayed here as I have heeded the warnings but based on testimonial stories by mothers during fraternity mom’s weekends and by perusing their reviews on google you can see why they are on our do not stay list. I truly want to speak highly about our places here in Oxford but unfortunately, I don’t think I can find myself to do this. Reviews online discuss mold, mildew, gobs of hair in the drain of the shower. A mom during mom’s weekend for our fraternity was recounting her war stories from staying at the Oxford Inn and how she had roaches crawling around the floor as well as stains on the sheets. This mom explained how she could not check out fast enough and hoped she didn’t get sick due to mold. Unfortunately, the owner seems very standoffish in replying to their poor reviews with a harsh tone. So all in all, I would be careful if you are examining the Oxford Inn.
